【English】Ryuto Hana Emaki Candle(Release Date: June 1, 2025)

Ryuto
Hana Emaki Candle

Niigata is known as the “City of Water,”
surrounded by the Shinano and
Agano Rivers.
In the historic district of Furumachi,
the local culture of geisha entertaining
with song and dance has flourished
for centuries.

Born in snowy Niigata,
the “Hana Candle” replaces fresh flowers
with delicate floral paintings.
Lighting this candle is said to convey your heartfelt wishes to your loved ones.

Local illustrator Junko Kurihara beautifully expresses the refined beauty
of traditional geisha on each candle.
Made from rice bran wax—called “nukarou”—and crafted purely from plant-based materials, these Japanese candles are
packaged like scrolls to honor tradition.

Experience a unique blend of Niigata’s
rich culture and history
with this exquisite work of art.

I had long hoped to create a product that pays tribute to the Furumachi geigi,
the traditional entertainers of Niigata.
One day, I came across a nostalgic yet gentle illustration that deeply moved me.
It inspired the idea of combining local art and tradition into something
we could share with others.

I sincerely hope this candle will serve as a bridge to carry forward the timeless beauty and culture of Niigata
for future generations.

Japan’s Unique
“Emakimono” (Picture Scrolls),
Obi (Sashes), and “Goen” (Connections/Fate)

Experience the beauty of our
painted candles as if unfolding
the story of
a traditional Japanese scroll.

The scroll is known as one of the oldest
forms of books in Japan.
Its history dates back to the Nara period, when traditional Japanese candles (warousoku) were first introduced.
Originally brought from China, scrolls evolved over time, and by the Muromachi period, Japan developed its own unique painted scrolls called emakimono.

パッケージ
We arranged the traditional Japanese candles in a package reminiscent of an ancient scroll, inviting you to feel the rich history and tradition as if reading a story.

This design was inspired by the unique culture of Niigata, Japan, with the hope that you will come to appreciate its beauty.

The outer wrapping in gold and silver evokes the obi sash worn by geigi (traditional female entertainers), and it is tied with a red cord symbolizing “connection” or “bond,” reminiscent of an obi clasp.
